Call for Submissions: Summer ’17

 The Board of Editors of Trade, Law and Development [TL&D] is pleased to invite original, unpublished manuscripts for publication in the Summer ‘17 Special Issue of the Journal on Recent Regionalism (Vol. 9, No. 1). The manuscripts may be in the form of Articles, Notes, Comments, and Book Reviews.

TL&D aims to generate and sustain a democratic debate on emerging issues in international economic law, with a special focus on the developing world. Towards these ends, we have published works by noted scholars such as Prof. Petros Mavroidis, Prof. Mitsuo Matsuhita, Prof. Raj Bhala, Prof. Joel Trachtman, Gabrielle Marceau, Simon Lester, Prof. Bryan Mercurio, Prof. E.U. Petersmann and Prof. M. Sornarajah among others.

TL&D also has the distinction of being ranked the best journal in India across all fields of law and the 10th best trade journal worldwide by Washington and Lee University, School of Law for five consecutive years (2011-15) [The Washington & Lee Rankings are considered to be the most comprehensive in this regard].

Call for Submissions – Race, Gender and Law: A tribute to the scholarship of Sherene Razack

The Canadian Journal of Women and Law (CJWL) seeks submissions for a special issue 30(2) to be published in December 2018 on Race, Gender and Law: A tribute to the scholarship of Sherene Razack (guest edited by Gada Mahrouse, Carmela Murdocca, and Leslie Thielen-Wilson). The deadline for submitting articles for this special issue is September 1, 2017. 

Dr. Sherene Razack is one of Canada’s leading critical race feminist theorists. She is especially known for developing an analytic that shows: 1. how racial violence is often legally and socially authorized and is integral to the making of states; and 2. how racial violence is gendered and sexualized. This special issue is in celebration of the 20th anniversary of her ground-breaking book Looking White People in the Eye (now in its fourth edition) and her important and on-going contributions to the interdisciplinary field of critical race feminisms and socio-legal studies. We invite articles in English and French from academics, legal scholars, educators, and activists, working in the areas of gender, race, and law. We are interested in receiving articles that are explicitly informed by Razack’s methodology or any other important aspect of her work.

The Canadian Journal of Women and the Law/ Revue Femmes et droit is Canada’s oldest and only feminist legal periodical. Since it began in 1985, the journal has provided a forum in which feminist writers from diverse backgrounds, speaking from a wide range of experience, can exchange ideas and information about legal issues that affect women. We are looking to build on this tradition and remain committed to reflecting a diversity of political, social, cultural, and economic thinking, unified by a shared interest in law reform.

We invite submissions from people who are engaged in feminist analysis of socio-legal issues that reflect a range of approaches, including multidisciplinary, action-focused, theoretical, and historical, and that reflect linguistic and regional differences in Canada. We particularly encourage submissions authored by women from different backgrounds, disciplines and jurisdictions who are doing new feminist work.

The CJWL/RFD is seeking papers for publication in the following sections of the CJWL/RFD: articles, review essays, commentaries, case comments, research notes, book reviews, and notes on Canadian and International events of interest to our readers. Comments on previously published materials are also welcome.

Write on! Call for Papers: NALSAR International Law Journal

The NALSAR International Law Journal, and the NALSAR International Law Society (affiliated to the ILSA) are located at the NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad, India. The NALSAR International Law Journal was launched in recognition of an acute lack of International Law scholarship in India. 

The first edition of the Journal received a great response, and the International Law Society at NALSAR has since come a long way. That edition can be accessed here – https://nilj.nalsar.ac.in/Archive.php. This year, we seek to bring out an annual edition of the Journal, and encourage discussion on Public International Law in Indian academic circles. We are keen on publishing articles drawing attention to gender issues within international law.

Write On! The Cambodia Law and Policy Journal

The Documentation Center of Cambodia (DC-Cam) is pleased to announce Cambodia’s first bi-annual academic journal published in English and Khmer: The Cambodia Law and Policy Journal (CLPJ).

DC-Cam strongly believes that empowering Cambodians to make informed demands for change will strengthen the rule of law in Cambodia and other Southeast Asian countries. As empowerment for change requires awareness and dialogue, CLPJ’s mission is to promote scholarship and discussion of urgent legal, social, and development issues facing the Southeast Asian region.

CLPJ welcomes article submissions on these topics as well as more general discussion and commentary on human rights and transitional justice issues in post-conflict settings.

DC-Cam is an independent Cambodian-staffed research institute that began as a field office of Yale University’s Cambodian Genocide Program. The Center’s programs educate Cambodians about the Khmer Rouge era (1975-1979), and record and preserve physical and oral history from that time. DC-Cam’s archives hold the world’s largest collection of Khmer Rouge documentation and serve as a primary source of evidence for the hybrid national/international Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia (ECCC).

DC-Cam is in the process of transforming itself into the premier Asian center for conflict and human rights studies, to be called the Sleuk Rith Institute. Acclaimed London-based architect Zaha Hadid, 2004 recipient of the Pritzker Architecture Prize, is working with DC-Cam on its physical design, which will house a museum, research center, and a graduate studies program. The Cambodia Law and Policy Journal, part of the Center’s Witnessing Justice Project, will be the Institute’s core academic publication.

ARTICLE SUBMISSIONS: The CLPJ is now accepting articles relevant to urgent legal, social, and development issues facing the Southeast Asian region for peer review and publication in print and online. Traditional academic articles on a wide range of topics including justice, governance, labor, education, business, land ownership, and natural resource development are welcome. Nontraditional formats such as narrative, commentary, interview, essay, and artwork are also encouraged.

STUDENT EDITORS: The CLPJ is seeking graduate and law students to assist with periodic editing of articles. No financial compensation will be provided; this is an opportunity to help a renowned Cambodian organization galvanize analytical debate and scholarship in Cambodia and the Southeast Asia region.

The McGill International Journal of Sustainable Development Law and Policy (JSDLP) is soliciting submissions of case comments. The JSDLP is a student-run, peer-reviewed academic journal based at the Faculty of Law of McGill University in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The journal provides a forum for the exchange of ideas on the intersection between law, the environment, development and society.

The journal is currently seeking case comments on recent jurisprudence relating to environmental or sustainable development law and policy. Cases may come from any jurisdiction. Comments are generally 5,000 words in length. Submissions from academics, policymakers, practitioners, NGO representatives and graduate-level students are welcome.

Trade, Law and Development is a student-edited journal on International Economic Law published by the National Law University, Jodhpur, India. Managing Editor Thomas J. Vaillianeth sends this call for papers for the journal’s upcoming special issue on Trade and Climate Change:

Founded in 2009, the philosophy of Trade, Law and Development has been to generate and sustain a constructive and democratic debate on emergent issues in International Economic Law and to serve as a forum for the discussion and distribution of ideas – with a specific focus on the development perspective of International Economic Law. In keeping with these ideals, the Board of Editors is pleased to announce Trade and Climate Change as the theme for its next Special Issue (Vol. VI, No. 1, Summer 2014).

Climate change is one of the foremost challenges facing the global community today and intersects with international trade in numerous ways. Sustainable development and protection and preservation of the environment are recognized as fundamental goals of the WTO, although its principal objective is to foster international trade. The WTO permits members to avail of exceptions to its principles in order to protect the environment under specific conditions. The on-going Doha Round has further consolidated the WTO’s stance on the environment by launching the first ever multilateral trade and environment negotiations. Moreover, the recent COP-15, Rio+20 and Earth Summit negotiations have given significant impetus towards achieving a global solution to climate change. There is hope that this multilateral dialogue will materialise into a global climate change deal in 2015 under the auspices of the UNFCCC.

This Special Issue, currently scheduled for publication in June, 2014, will provide an ideal platform for deliberation on the relationship between trade and climate change in the run-up to the proposed 2015 global climate change deal. Accordingly, the Board of Editors is pleased to invite original, unpublished submissions for the Special Issue on Trade and Climate Change for publication as ‘Articles’, ‘Notes’, ‘Comments’ and/or ‘Book Reviews’. Preference will be given to submissions that espouse perspectives of developing and under-developed countries.
