The International Crimes Database (ICD) invites submissions of research papers and articles for publication in the online article series of the ICD, ICD Briefs.

The ICD is an online database, to be launched in 2013 (www.internationalcrimesdatabase.org), and is hosted and maintained by the T.M.C. Asser Instituut in The Hague and financially made possible by the Netherlands Ministry of Security and Justice and the International Centre for Counter-Terrorism – The Hague. It is furthermore supported by many prestigious international legal institutions, such as the International Court of Justice, the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia, the International Criminal Court and the International Committee of the Red Cross.

The ICD website will offer a comprehensive database of international crimes adjudicated by national as well as international and internationalised courts. In addition to case law on international crimes, the website will provide background information about international crimes and the development of international criminal law, both academic and news articles, audio and video lectures through online streaming, and ultimately, a social media platform to facilitate and stimulate interaction by our various users. The ICD will provide access to a range of information not only for lawyers and judges but also for students, academics, practitioners, policymakers, families and communities affected by crimes, and others. We hope that the Database will become a leading, indispensable ‘go-to’ resource for users seeking to gain a better understanding of international criminal law, as well as those seeking to follow the latest developments in international criminal law.

The online ICD article series ICD Briefs is another way in which the website wishes to provide in-depth information and insights to visitors through a series of thematic research papers on topics related to international crimes and international criminal jurisprudence. In addition, the series offers scholars and practitioners the opportunity to make their work available to an international network of ICD users.

The articles, research papers or opinion pieces should be between 5,000 and 7,500 words (excluding footnotes), relating to any area of international criminal law or jurisprudence. Pieces may not have been previously published or submitted for publication elsewhere. In the case that an author later seeks to publish a more extensive academic article based on the original ICD Brief, reference to and appropriate citation of the original ICD Brief is required. We offer a remuneration of € 250 for every paper selected for publication on the website by the ICD editorial team. We aim to publish some 8 to 10 papers a year.

Please send an abstract of your submission (500 words, incl. brief biographies or author affiliations) to editors@internationalcrimesdatabase.org by June 16th 2013. Please also include a CV with your submission. Authors of selected abstracts will be informed by July 1st. Selected authors should be prepared to submit a full paper for review by August 5th 2013. The ICD editorial team will decide which of the full papers will be published on the ICD website and which authors will consequently receive the remuneration of € 250.
